First annual “Rally for Quality Care”

On Sunday, September 21, 2008, more than 300 people gathered at the Milwaukee County Zoo for the Milwaukee Child Care Alliance’s first annual “Rally for Quality Care.” The purpose of the event was to bring together the families of the MCCA’s member organizations to learn more about and celebrate quality early childhood education and care options in the Milwaukee area.

The participants enjoyed a pancake breakfast, face painting, arts and crafts, and a family folk music kids’ concert by “Fox & Branch.” Parents signed postcards that will be hand delivered to Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle. At the invitation of the MCCA, Dan Harris, Administrator of the State of Wisconsin’s Division of Early Care and Education, spoke to the audience about the significance of partnering with parents to achieve quality early childhood care and learning in Wisconsin.

The MCCA extends sincere thanks to the dozens of volunteers who made the celebration a success. Funding for the Rally was provided by the Richard and Ethel Herzfeld Foundation. The MCCA is grateful for their support. MCCA would also like to thank Miss Katie’s Diner for the pancake breakfast, and the staff and volunteers from the Milwaukee Public Library and the Betty Brinn Children’s Museum whose creative activities made the day fun and memorable for all of the participants.
